Gratiot County is blessed with a very rich arts heritage—we have national and world champion dancers, a renowned community theatre, a symphony orchestra, a college with multiple performing and fine arts programs, a professional artists guild, jazz and percussion ensembles, chamber music groups, rock bands, blues bands, Celtic groups, community choruses, arts retail shops, a community art gallery, dance studios, and many individual professional and amateur artists, actors, musicians, crafters, teachers, collectors, and historians. Even community members who are very active in one or more particular arts endeavors are astounded at the abundance and exceptional quality of the local talent and experience we have here—often with too little recognition. We’re here to shout about Gratiot arts and artists!

Art is a necessity to balance our hectic twenty-first century lives. The community believes this so strongly that our mission is to create and enhance opportunities for Gratiot County citizens to enjoy the vitality of all the arts. We started raising money for the arts in 2002 with the first Lucky MacDuck Day, an annual community event on the Saturday after Labor Day, and added our spring fundraiser, a New to You music and art sale, in 2011. A year-round Just Ducky Shoppe sells all types of rubber ducks, as well as other ducky items. Donations also help support our work, and as a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization, we can credit your generous contributions as tax deductible donations to help the arts flourish.

Our 15-member board works to develop, expand, fund, and implement our educational and informational goals. We have an active Grant Program to support arts education and artistic endeavors in music, dance, visual arts, theater, and local history. Since 2002 we have provided over $67,000 in arts grants to Gratiot organizations.

For a grant application, to volunteer, for additional information, or to arrange a presentation on the arts council for your arts organization or community group, call Jan Caputo at the Pine River Arts Council, 989-285-3171.
